It is a Canadian-market label, and the "Northern" is best read as a nod to the Canadian market rather than to any exotic origin. Visually it belongs with the white and leucistic cubensis family: off-white to cream caps, thick pale stems, and blue bruising that shows clearly against the light flesh. If you have tried Great White Monster or Albino A+ style mushrooms you will recognize the look, though we do not claim it is genetically identical to either.

FAQ

Is Great Northern White the same as Great White Monster?
Not that we can verify. They share the pale look and both belong to the white cubensis family, but we have no genetic information linking them. Treat it as its own strain and dose from the table above.

I have heard white or albino mushrooms are stronger. Is that true here?
That belief is common, but in our experience colour is not a reliable guide to strength. We rate Great Northern White as Moderate based on how staff and customers describe it, not on lab testing, so start at the low end of the table regardless of what you have heard about white strains.

My mushrooms have blue or grey marks. Is that normal?
Yes. Cubensis bruise blue where they are handled, and the marks stand out more on a pale strain than on a golden one. It is a normal trait, not a sign of a problem. Store them airtight, away from heat and light, to keep them at their best.
