Flying Saucers is a Psilocybe cubensis variety named for the way it grows: broad caps that flatten and ripple at the edges until they look less like a mushroom and more like something that just landed. It is one of the more unusual-looking strains we carry, and one of the more assertive: Strong tier, premium pricing.

A note on the name, because it causes confusion. "Flying saucer mushroom" is best known as the nickname for Psilocybe azurescens, a wild, wood-loving species from the Pacific Northwest. What is sold dried under the name Flying Saucers is a cultivated cubensis that borrowed the label for its wavy caps, not that species. Its exact lineage is not well documented, so we would rather say that plainly than invent a backstory. What we can speak to is how it looks, how it lands, and how to dose it.

Potency

Strong ●●●○. Flying Saucers is commonly described as sitting a clear step above our everyday Moderate-tier strains, without reaching our Very Strong bracket. We do not publish lab numbers because we do not have them, and potency varies batch to batch and cap to cap with any dried mushroom. Treat the Strong rating as practical guidance: if you have a usual amount for a moderate strain, take noticeably less of this one the first time. People tend to describe a firm come-up rather than a slow drift in.

Effects & Experience

• Visuals lead. The most consistent report is geometric patterning and movement, such as breathing surfaces, lattices and colour shifts, arriving earlier and holding longer than people expect from a moderate strain.
• Bright, euphoric mood. Commonly described as an upbeat, giggly opening that settles into a warm, open middle rather than a heavy one.
• Introspection at higher doses. Past the 2.5g mark, people report the experience turning inward: long threads of thought, emotional clarity, and a pull toward music and eyes-closed time.
• Mild body warmth. A pleasant physical warmth is often mentioned, along with the usual early stomach flutter that passes once things settle.
• Duration. Most describe four to six hours from onset, peaking in the second and third hour with a gentle tail.

Dosing

Our dosing bands are the same across every dried strain we carry; what changes is where you start. With a Strong strain, start at the bottom of the band that matches your intention.

Because Flying Saucers runs Strong, err low on a first session and wait a full 90 minutes before deciding on more. Dried mushrooms keep well sealed and away from light, so a 14g ($95) or 28g ($165) dosed over several sessions is often better value than a single 7g ($55).

Who It's For

Flying Saucers is for people who already know how psilocybin sits with them and want more push than our Moderate tier offers. FAQ

Is Flying Saucers the same thing as Psilocybe azurescens?
No. Azurescens is the wild Pacific Northwest species that earned the "flying saucer" nickname. The dried Flying Saucers we carry is a cultivated Psilocybe cubensis variety that shares the name and the wavy cap shape. Do not apply what you have read about azurescens here; dose it as a Strong cubensis.

Why do the caps look so uneven?
That is the strain. The rippled, saucer-like edge is a natural growth pattern, not a drying defect, and you will see variation within a bag, some caps fully flattened and some still cupped. Potency is not evenly spread between caps and stems in any dried mushroom, so crumble or grind your dose rather than eating one large cap.

Can I microdose with Flying Saucers?
You can, but a Strong strain makes accurate weighing matter more, and whole dried caps are inconsistent at sub-gram amounts. If microdosing is the goal, our microdoses (500mg for $15, 1000mg for $25) are pre-measured and easier to keep consistent.
